Hetalia, And Billy Budd…

Just having gotten into the spirit, I decided to take the quiz…

http://quizfarm.com/quizzes/quiz/xWestie/which-axis-powers-hetalia-character-are-you/

for a few of the characters of Billy Budd.

Here are the results… *cough

John Claggart, Master At Arms

France

France was once a large nation, but after Napoleon Bonaparte had died, he was no longer good in war and instead attracted tourists to his country with his wine. He has an intense rivalry with England, and loves to argue with him over trivial topics. As a reference to France’s historical relations with colonial Canada, Canada has a similar hairstyle to him. France is infatuated with most of the nations. He has been known to make blatant sexual comments at every opportunity.

JC: Hey, you mean, „handsomely done, my lad,“ was too obvious?

France maintains a bit of facial hair because he feels it makes him look like a big brother.

JC: Hmm, should I, do you really think… *stroking his beardless chin, lost in thoughts. — *also, blonde hair, have to think…

He is constantly pictured carrying a rose.

JC: Would prefer it to a rattan… But directors are soooo cliché, don’t you agree…

Cpt. Vere

Germany

Germany is a hard worker and a lover of rules. He sticks to them rigidly and trains his troops to do the same.

V: May I ask why you are laughing?

Despite this, he has formed a close relationship with the carefree Northern Italy.

BB: Who is „Italy?“ Suspecting the Novice… *slight ping of jealousy….
V: Whoot? *darn, who gave me away…

He notes at one point that he has a crazy boss.

V: Well, Admiral, er…. won’t mention names, of course… has behaved strangely lately.

Billy Budd

Surprise! Also …

Germany!

Germany is a hard worker and a lover of rules. He sticks to them rigidly and trains his troops to do the same.

BB: *delighted nod with a flashing smile.
JC: *smirking, toying suggestively with his rattan.
V: *dreamy gaze

Despite this, he has formed a close relationship with the carefree Northern Italy.

/Naughty you …
BB: Well, the Novice, he is just…. *awwwwwww…. *closely hugging Novice, very brotherly
V: *for a second transforming to a green-eyed monster before slipping into very un-puritan thoughts; after a few more seconds, reluctantly oppressing them, and reading on his Plato.

He notes at one point that he has a crazy boss.

BB: Huh? Vere is also … *awwwwwww… *preparing for another close hug, very… brotherly.

So now, finally:

The Novice

Italy

A bright and energetic nation that progressed from being the kin of Roma Antiqua, widely recognized as the strongest nation in the world, to being clumsy and irresponsible.

N: I’m not clumsy… Well, a little. And,… o, heck…

Personified as being carefree, cowardly and lackadaisical (noted by his collection of white flags he uses to surrender),…

N: Hey, I want to see you whine when somebody flogged you…
BB: hush… *hugging, brotherly.

… he often depends on Germany to resolve issues.

N:  I would, I mean, but… Vere just does nothing and BB only hugs, … but I don’t want the latter to be noted as a complaint.

Nods to Italian culture include his artistry and recurrent portrayal of pasta and pizza. He has an older brother, who represents southern Italy and who is commonly known as Italia-Romano.

N: … I would need him around here, wonder what he is doing. And pizza… That would be something after the dreadful rations.

Resumé

Sums up nicely why Vere won’t hug Billy in the closed-doors scene, at least not more than very brotherly. Vere can as well go and hug himself.

Billy would on the long run have been better off with Claggart, hadn’t they just met on this floating fragment of earth, of all places — only voicing my own humble opinion.

*) Picture for further inspiration: France/Germany, France is the uke one, unneccesary to mention …
